MELISSA MCMORROW
Melissa began boxing in Oakland fight clubs over a year ago. During her first fight club experience, she discovered the thrilling difficulty of boxing and became eager to explore her potential in the sport. Here, she came to terms with how the exhilaration of being in the ring could manifest itself into a passion of self-expression and empowerment.
Melissa has now formalized her training and has been fighting amateur fights for the past year and a half. At 110 lb. flyweight and under the direction of Paul Wade, Melissa is currently 5-3 in her career. She is currently the 2006 Northern California Women's Golden Gloves Flyweight Champion. She placed second in the San Francisco Golden Gloves behind a competitor ranked 3rd in the nation. She has also received the best bout award at the Kings Gym Fight Night. Melissa has been featured in many local papers, websites, and news stories, including the Contra Costa Times, the Oakland Tribune, NorcalBoxing.com, the Discovery Channel, and NBC Channel 11 news. In addition, her achievements have received much attention from the makers of Balance Bar, who have given Melissa a grant to continue pursuing her goals as a leading female flyweight boxer.
